Planting

Another one of my favorite units.... planting!
I had so much fun designing this unit and the kids have really been having a good time doing it.
We started by learning about the different parts of a plant.
The children created their own flower and then added the labels.

The next day we planted!
We are keeping a plant observation journals.
First the children had to make predictions of what their flower will look like when it blooms.
Every few days they will add an entry writing a sentence of what they observe, how tall their plant is and draw what it looks like.

This is our texture table for the next few weeks.
I added the left over soil, added some fake flowers from the dollar store, beans, cups and mini shovels.
The kids have been having so much fun!

Today we did a planting experiment.
We talked about what plants need in order to grow.
Then we recorded our predictions of which plants will grow.
1. Soil, water, & light
2. No Soil
3. No Water
4. No Light
Then we planted the seeds and in a few weeks we will see if our predictions were right.
(I will post more pictures tomorrow!)

Happy Planting :)
