Ocean Unit

We have been having so much fun with our ocean unit!
Here are some pictures of the projects,
be sure to check out my Ocean Unit on Teachers Pay Teachers!

This is my favorite project!
We learned about sea turtles and made these cute magnets!
We used a piece of cardboard for the middle and the kids arranged sea glass after painting them. Then I hot glued the sea glass on and attached a magnet to the back.. too cute!

We learned about area and perimeter.
We measured pictures using seashells and sea glass!

We did a short 'o' word family sort.

The kids created these beautiful pictures after we learned about fish and crabs.

We also painted sea shells that I found in Cape Cod :)

More pictures to come!

** Be sure to check out my store I'm having a sale until Friday.. everything 15% off!!

Can You Say Peace?

We read the book "Can You Say Peace?" by Karen Katz.
The kids each got a country and had to write the name of the country and how you say peace in that language. They also drew a picture of what the child in the book looked like that each country. The book is really wonderful and the kids enjoyed the project!

Check out my around the world unit on Teachers Pay Teachers.

On the Farm

We started our unit on farms this week.
First we learned about different goods that come from farms.
Then we learned about pigs.
We made "mud"... aka chocolate pudding!
The kids made cute recipe books.
(Thanks Deanna Jump for the idea!)

Today we learned about cows.
The kids created their own cows and we practiced handwriting using
sentence strips to write a fact from the book.
(I used this activity more as handwriting practice rather then using invented spelling,
thats why the words are all spelled correctly!)
Tomorrow we learn about hens and roosters.
I'm working on my unit plan to post on Teachers Pay Teachers soon :)

I just think that is the cutest looking cow!

Planting

Another one of my favorite units.... planting!
I had so much fun designing this unit and the kids have really been having a good time doing it.
We started by learning about the different parts of a plant.
The children created their own flower and then added the labels.

The next day we planted!
We are keeping a plant observation journals.
First the children had to make predictions of what their flower will look like when it blooms.
Every few days they will add an entry writing a sentence of what they observe, how tall their plant is and draw what it looks like.

This is our texture table for the next few weeks.
I added the left over soil, added some fake flowers from the dollar store, beans, cups and mini shovels.
The kids have been having so much fun!

Today we did a planting experiment.
We talked about what plants need in order to grow.
Then we recorded our predictions of which plants will grow.
1. Soil, water, & light
2. No Soil
3. No Water
4. No Light
Then we planted the seeds and in a few weeks we will see if our predictions were right.
(I will post more pictures tomorrow!)

If you are interested in this unit, check out my store on Teachers Pay Teachers.
Happy Planting :)

Fun Art Ideas

Last week we learned about different Artists.
We recreated some of the art work.
We did Monet's "Water Lilies"
Van Gogh's "Starry Night"
Andy Warhol's "Pop Art"
On the last day the children created their own original artwork.

Here's some photos of Andy Warhol's Pop Art recreations...
